Preparing your manuscript (Letter to Editor)

A Letter to Editor generally takes one of the following forms:

  • A substantial re-analysis of a previously published article in SMBS or another journal.
  • An article that may not cover 'standard research' but that is of general interest to the broad readership of SMBS.
  • A brief report of research findings adequate for the journal's scope and of particular interest to the community.

The information below details the section headings that you should include in your manuscript and what information should be within each section.



This type of article no needs an abstract section.



Three to ten keywords representing the main content of the article according to MeSH terms.


►Main text

This should contain the body of the article, and may also be broken into subsections with short, informative headings.



All manuscripts must contain the following sections under the heading 'Declarations':

  • Ethics approval and consent to participate
  • Consent for publication
  • Availability of data and material
  • Competing interests
  • Funding
  • Authors' contributions
  • Acknowledgments
  • Authors' information (optional)

If any of the sections are not relevant to your manuscript, please include the heading and write 'Not applicable' for that section. 



All the references must be prepared by the Vancouver style. The letter to editor article could have up to 20 references. Also, please see the General Formation Guideline to prepared this section.
